Narrative

Listed as living with Oral in the 1940 US Census is his Ohio-born wife Crystal, two years his senior, and his fifteen-year-old step-daughter Martha Card; Martha was the only surviving child of Crystal and her previous husband, John Jay Card. Crystal and John married in 1923 in Ashtabula Cty, Ohio, and divorced sometime between 1928 (the year another daughter, infant death Catherine, was born) and 1936 (when John died in Cherry Valley, Ashtabula Cty, Ohio). I've not found a marriage record for Oral and Crystal, nor do I have any indication that they had children of their own.

Both Oral and Crystal are listed (on FindaGrave.com) as buried in Elkhart Prairie Cemetery, Goshen, Elkhart Cty, Indiana; neither listing includes photos of their gravesites, but Crystal's listing contains complete dates, while Oral's has no listed death date. I suspect this is because the engraving was not completed to include Oral's death date (Crystal preceded him in death by three years), which also seems to point to him having no children of his own.
