Narrative
Note: Margaret Cayot and family
Thus far in my research, I have not found any records from the earlier part of Margaret's life. The initial information I had from which to base my work was from Annette Lynch, though most of my findings have validated what was provided. Margaret was likely born about 1846 in Stark Cty, Ohio, and her husband was Alexander Vincent, a Pennsylvania-born son of French immigrants Philibert Vincent and Mariane Noël (who immigrated in 1834). Alexander had come to Indiana as a young man with a group of other families from Pennsylvania around 1863, and sometime in the next handful of years after his arrival in Indiana he and Margaret wed. The reported birthplaces of their children suggest that the family remained in Indiana until sometime between 1872 and 1874, at which point they followed many other families who had returned east to Crawford Cty. I will note that the earliest record I have found for Margaret or any other member of her family is the 1880 US Census listing for their household, placing them in Wayne Twp, Crawford Cty.
Alexander died in 1889 - when his oldest children were teenagers and the youngest was about nine years old - and was buried in Cochranton Cemetery in Cochranton, Crawford Cty. Margaret continued to live in Wayne Twp, counted in the federal censuses living first with her youngest daughter (Emma) in 1900, then with one of her adolescent grandchildren (Ralph Ducray Vincent) in 1910, and lastly with another of her adult grandchildren (Julian Augustus Vincent) and his wife in 1920. Margaret died in 1924, and is buried in Cochranton Cemetery, as well.
Margaret and Alexander had four known children; three of those married and had children while remaining in the immediate area of Crawford Cty where they were born and raised. The other - Louis Edward Vincent - appears to have married and divorced multiple times and moved to Fort Wayne, Allen Cty, Indiana, before spending many years in Chicago, Cook Cty, Illinois, and then to Miami, Dade Cty, Florida, with no known biological children. At the time of her death, Margaret was survived by all four of her children, at least nine grandchildren, and at least two of her siblings.
