Narrative

Note: The descendancy of Clara Catherine (Schear) Fisher

Clara's line of descendants proved more difficult to sort than I expected, and has led to quite a few stopping points in the research. She and her husband Isaiah appear to have had four children - two daughters and two sons - but some gaps in the records have made for a challenge in confirming how her family line may have continued. Starting with her youngest child and working back to the oldest:

- Frank Edwin married when he was about thirty years old and had at least three children; I have not found a marriage record for him, nor a maiden name for his wife Inez. Frank lived to be 101 years old, and his headstone has engraving plates for four names (two in addition to Frank and Inez), suggesting that one or two of his children may be unmarried and intend to be buried there. I have not found any information on marriages or any children born to Frank's children.

- Ruth Isabelle married Elmer Arth when she was between sixteen and twenty-six; the two of them are counted together in the 1920 and 1930 US Census listings with no children. Ruth died at the age of thirty-seven, and Elmer would go on to remarry sometime later.

- John Wesley married Mary Elizabeth Logan in 1916, and the two of them were living on a farm with their one-year-old son Kenneth in the 1920 US Census listing for Ohio Twp, Monroe Cty, Ohio. While I have not yet confirmed it, I believe the two of them died within a handful of years of that listing, as Kenneth was found living with his paternal grandparents Clara and Isaiah in the 1930 US Census. I have not found death dates or burial locations for any of the three, nor have I found any further information on whether John had other children or whether Kenneth himself married or had children.

- Mary C. remained unmarried for many years, and was last counted with the surname Fisher in the 1930 US Census listing (with her parents and her nephew Kenneth). There is a Mary C. with the same birth year buried with a shared stone with her sister Ruth and Ruth's husband Elmer Arth, and there is an Ohio death record for a Mary C. Arth with a birthdate that matches that of Mary C. Fisher. While I have found neither a marriage record nor a 1940 US Census listing that would help confirm this, it appears to me that in the years that followed Ruth's death, Elmer married Mary, and the two of them remained married until her death in 1967 (with his following in 1974). As Mary would have been no younger than early-to-mid forties when she and Elmer married, it seems likely that they had no children.

By all appearances, Clara had four grandchildren, but I have not determined whether there were more than four, nor whether any of them married and gave Clara any great-grandchildren.
