Narrative

Martin's birthdate is misreported by a year on the record for his first marriage - given as 6 Jun 1881 there - while it is reported as 6 Jun 1880 on both his WWI and WWII draft cards and the record for his second marriage.

Sometime between 1930 and 1940, Martin and his first wife, Ida, divorced; Ida was recorded in the 1940 US Census as the head of household with several of her adult and adolescent children, with her marital status given as divorced. Thus far, I have not managed to find Martin in the 1940 US Census, though he does have a WWII draft card completed in 1942 in Portland, Jay Cty, Indiana. His second marriage was in Jay Cty in late 1946 to the widow Clara (Weyrick) Bisel. I am uncertain if they remained married until Martin's death in 1956, though I will note that Clara died in 1957 and is buried in the same cemetery as her first husband.

One of his youngest sons is named Martin Henry Eley, and in at least one census record he was called "Martin Eley Jr.," though I have not confirmed that he and his father shared names.
