Narrative

Note: The marriages, residences, and family of Leroy Henderson Huffman

After the 1880 US Census listing that places "Roy" in his parents' household, the next confirmed record I can find for him is a marriage record from 1902 in King Cty, Washington, to Rhoda McCollum. Following this is a birth record in 1905 for his son Clarence in Genesee, Latah Cty, Idaho, naming Roy and Rhoda as the parents.

Rhoda died just two years later, and in the 1910 and 1920 US Censuses I have not yet found confirmed listings for Roy. Clarence, though, is counted both of these years as a lodger or boarder in the household of Samuel and Ida Stucker in Genesee - presumably either friends or neighbors of Roy's.

In 1921, Roy appears to have married in Nez Perce Cty, Idaho, to Catherine A. Kane, and this is presumably the same woman who is counted as his wife in the 1930 US Census in Genesee (named Katie A., aged thirty-four, born in Scotland). Living with the two of them are Roy's son Clarence, and two younger girls given the surname of Hoffman - Anne D., listed as Nebraska-born and aged thirteen, and Barbara B., listed as Idaho-born and aged eleven. Whether these are Katie's daughters from a previous marriage, girls fostered or adopted by the family, or Roy's daughters is uncertain, though they are both much too young to have been born to Roy's first wife Rhoda.

By the time of the 1940 US Census, I can find only Roy in Pataha, Garfield Cty, Washington, this time listed as widowed and with only a Washington-born boarder named Ethel B. Shangle (aged twenty-four) counted in his household. Roy died in 1954, and is buried with his first wife Rhoda. Whether he married again between the 1940 US Census and his death is unknown to me at this time.

I have been unable to find any further confirmed records for Clarence, Katie, or the girls Anne and Barbara. I will note that Clarence appears to have married and remained in Genesee - there is a burial listing on the FindaGrave.com website for Clarence R. Huffman in the Genesee City Cemetery with wife Jessie E. Huffman (b. 1897, d. 1975). I think it likely this listing applies to the son of Roy and Rhoda; the gravestone appears to be inscribed with their wedding date (29 May 1947). I am uncertain whether Clarence was married prior to this, nor whether he had any children from this or any other marriage.
