Narrative

Note: Researching Benjamin Franklin Miller

Benjamin Franklin, or "Frank," met his first wife, Mary Jane Finkenbiner, while employed as a young man by her father as a hand on the Finkenbiner farm in Warren, Huntington Cty, Indiana; he is counted as resident at the Finkenbiner residence in the 1880 US Census. Five years later, the two of them were married in Warren, and by 1900 had moved to Huntington, Huntington Cty, where Frank would work first as a laborer and later as a retail salesman.

Mary died in 1916, and was buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Huntington. Three years later, Frank remarried to the divorcée Lusadia Carene (Lahr) Saal, and they would remain married until Frank's death in 1940 (sometime after the census was taken that year in early April). Lusadia's son Gerald Saal lived with them for many years, and in the last year's of Frank's life their home was shared with Lusadia's much older brother Frederick Lahr.

Frank and his first wife, Mary, appear to have never had any surviving children; while the 1890 US Census record for them is obviously unavailable, there is only a gap of fifteen years between their marriage and the 1900 US Census, so it seems unlikely they had any children during that time (or at least, none that survived to 1900). Frank's second wife, Lusadia, was forty-four at the time of their marriage, so the two of them are unlikely to have had any children, either. (None appear in any of the census listings that follow for their household.)

Lusadia survived Frank by over twenty years, and is buried in Saint Peters First Cemetery in Huntington, where her daughter Kathleen Isabelle (Saal) Leverett is also buried.
