Narrative

Note: Hazel Hops Sweeney

I have not yet found a marriage record for Hazel, but she appears not to have married until at least her late thirties; as of the 1930 US Census, she was listed as single and still living with her parents, at the age of thirty-eight.

Her husband was the much older Daniel Joseph "D.J." Sweeney, for whom I have not found many confirmed records, due to the surprising commonness of his name. If we assume that most of the local Idaho-area records apply to him, then there are a handful that would presumably apply.

- The earliest record I can find that may apply is a 1910 US Census listing for thirty-one-year-old DJ Sweeney as a lodger in Twin Falls, Twin Falls Cty, Idaho; his birthplace is given as Massachusetts, with his parents' birthplaces both listed as Ireland.

- A WWI draft registration card for Daniel J. Sweeney, dated 12 Sep 1918, gives his birthdate as 6 Jun 1879, states that he was naturalized and not a native-born citizen, gives his residence as Idaho Falls, Bonneville Cty, and names his closest relative as Alice Palmer Sweeney, his wife.

- In the 1920 US Census, there is a listing for the household of forty-year-old Irish-born Daniel J. Sweeney with Kansas-born wife Alice Sweeney and thirteen-year-old stepson Franklin Smith, all resident in Idaho Falls.

- In the 1930 US Census, there is a fifty-two-year-old Irish-born Dan J. Mcsweeney listed as a lodger in Idaho Falls, with his marital status given as "single."

- In the 1940 US Census is a listing for the household of fifty-nine-year-old D.J. Sweeney, with his birthplace given as Massachusetts, resident with his wife Hazel G. Sweeney in Idaho Falls.

- Lastly, his Idaho death certificate gives his birthplace as Ireland, and his obituary specifically as "Kerry Co, Cork", while his birthdate is reported as as 6 Jun 1879.

Dan appears to have been married at least once prior to Hazel, but I have not found any indication that he had children from either marriage. Likewise, I do not know whether his marriage to Alice ended in divorce or her death.

So far as I have been able to determine, Hazel had no other marriage prior to that with Dan, and had no children at all.
