Narrative

I have not yet found enough specific information to know how many children Raymond fathered; his first wife, Eloise, died in childbirth with what would have been their seventh child, and her obituary names her a mother of six (Martha, Raymond, Richard, William, Rex, and Margaret). Richard remarried two years after Eloise's death, and his second wife, Margaret, is named a mother of ten in her obituary. Six of those named bear the same names as those listed as the children of Eloise, and are in the same order with four other names interspersed among them (Carl, David, Marianne, Laura). Of those four, Carl is listed between Martha and Raymond (and bears the surname "Howard," which FindaGrave.com gives as mother Margaret's maiden name), while the other three follow the rest of the list after the child Margaret. David's surname is Behling, and it seems likely that Marianne and Laura bore that same surname prior to marriage.

This suggests to me that Raymond's second wife Margaret had been previously married, and that "Howard" was her married name, not her maiden name, and that Carl was the only child of that marriage. The last three children named I believe to be from her second marriage (which also happened to have been Raymond's second marriage). As her obituary does not name any previous husband, I don't believe she was likely widowed, but was rather divorced, though I haven't found a marriage record for Raymond and Margaret which might carry such information.

For now, I have attributed to Raymond only those six children that are from his first marriage, and have not placed the additional four children into the database as of yet.
