Narrative

Note: the children of Lucy Florence (Weible) Michael

Aside from the federal and state census records placing Lucy in her parents' household, and a marriage record from early 1884 (to Morris Michael) in Whiting, Jackson Cty, Kansas, the only other information I have found for her is her listing on the FindaGrave.com website. The listing gives her full married name and includes her maiden name, while the photo of her headstone displays her name only as "Lucy F., wife of Morris Michael," with a death date and age visibly inscribed on the stone. The supplemental information on the listing names her the daughter of George and Mary Jane (Gilliland) Weible, and goes on to mention that she had two sons - Morris Embert and a "12 day old baby."

The listing and photo for Morris Embert Michael's grave shows an alternate side of the stone he shares with his mother with his name, his parents' names, his date of death and his age, while the supplemental information gives that he died from croup. For the aforementioned "12 day old baby," I have found no further reference or record.

Prior to further searches for her husband, Morris Michael, I had assumed Lucy had no surviving children, but in the 1900 US Census in Cleveland, Pawnee Cty, Oklahoma shows that, living just a few houses away from Lucy's father George C. Weible, is a widower named Morris Michael, age fifty-eight and bithplace given as New York, with a Kansas-born twelve-year-old son Willis Michael. Further searches turn up WWI and WWII draft registration cards for Willis - the first from Benton Cty, Arkansas (giving his birthplace as Jackson Cty, Kansas) and the second from Bristow, Creek Cty, Oklahoma, with both giving his birthdate as 16 May 1888, just twelve days before Lucy's death. This strongly suggests that Lucy died from complications following Willis' birth, and that he was the only one of her children to survive to adulthood, marrying and having children of his own many years later.
