Narrative

Note: Researching Sadie Schoen

Sadie Schoen took the married surname Tietz, although it is unclear at this point in my research to whom she was married. She is buried beside (and shares a headstone with) Walter J. Tietz, who died in 1935 at the age of thirty-two. I have not located a 1930 US Census record that lists her or Walter, but in the 1940 US Census she is listed as living with Alvin Tietz, Walter's older brother; on that listing, her position is given as "wife." My presumption at this point is that she was widowed young upon Walter's death, and chose to live with his brother afterwards. It is possible that she may have married him, as well, but if so it seems odd that she is buried with Walter and not with Alvin. All three are interred at Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Ixonia, Wisconsin.

So far as I am able to determine, she had no children, but more research is yet to be done.

ADDENDUM: Sadie's obituary names her Mrs. Alvin Tietz, and gives her marriage date (7 Nov 1937) to Alvin; he is named a survivor. Among those listed as preceding her in death is her first husband, Walter Tietz. Walter died in 1935, so it appears she married Walter, was widowed, and then two years later married his brother. All three are buried in Cross Lutheran Cemetery in Ixonia - Sadie in the plot next to Walter with a share headstone, and Alvin elsewhere in the cemetery.

I don't yet have a marriage date for Sadie and Walter, but I imagine a look through the records at Cross Lutheran would likely find it. It is interesting to note that Walter and Sadie were in the same confirmation class (1917) at Cross Lutheran Church in Ixonia.
