Narrative

His father's obituary in 1943 names Erwin a survivor, and goes on to mention seven grandchildren. Erwin's sister, Gola (m. Hoopingarner), had seven surviving adult children, all born before 1938, suggesting that she accounted for all of the aforementioned grandchildren of Joseph K. Smith and that Erwin had no children. I've not fully finished my research into Erwin's life, as I have no records for him after the 1910 US Census listing (prior to his second marriage in 1948), so it's possible he had children that I've not accounted for, but it seems unlikely at this point.
