Narrative
Note: Carl Nagel and Dorothea Nevermann, parents of John Nagel
The initial information I had for Carl and Dorothea came from their names on the marriage record for their son Johann Carl Christoph (later "John") Nagel, along with his christening record, both from Gressow, near Wismar in Mecklenburg. There were several more christening records and at least one burial record from Gressow that followed in the years after John's christening, also naming the two as parents (and occasionally giving more complete listings of their names).
Establishing greater detail than this has been challenging, though the following records apply with varying degrees of likelihood. Reviewing first for John:
- There is a marriage record for "August Carl Nagel," son of Christian Nagel, to "Maria Nevermann" in Gressow on 11 Nov 1836, just eleven months before the birth of their oldest child, John; this record seems quite likely to apply to John's parents.
- The first potential burial record is for "August Carl Christian Nagel" on 15 Nov 1862 in Gressow, naming his parents Christian Nagel and Dorothea Bumann.
- Connected to this is a christening record from Gressow on 19 Sep 1805 for "August Carl Christian Nagel," naming his parents Christian Nagel and Dorothea Bumann; this almost certainly applies to the same man mentioned in the burial record just above.
- The second potential burial record is for "Carl August Friedrich Nagel," also from Gressow, on 30 Jan 1867, naming his parents Carl Ludwig Christian Nagel and Dorothea Wulf.
I have not reviewed more than the indexed records at this point, so I have not found further information that might be available in the original records.
Not surprisingly, finding potential matches for Dorothea have been more challenging.
