Mable Irene Rudkin was born on August 1, 1899 in Yorktown, Illinois to Charles and Rebecca (Wright) Eshelan. She came to the Mather area with her family when she was 8 years old. Her family later farmed in Farmers Valley. She taught in Trout Falls and Welsh Valey Schools for 2 years after graduating from high school in 1917. She married John Rudkin on December 24, 1919. They farmed on John's parents' farm in the Cataract area. They moved to Sparta in June of 1974. She was involved in PTA, past treasurer of the Town of New Lyme and member of Extension Homemakers.

She passed away Wednesday morning, December 23, 1987 at Rolling Hills Nursing Home at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 22 days. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Albert and an infant brother, 2 sisters, Ethel and Marietta, a son, Kenneth, 2 great-grandsons and a grand-daughter.

She is survived by her husband John of Sparta, 3 [living] daughters and 2 [living ] sons, a sister, Mrs Anna Peck of LaCrosse, 15 grandchildren, and 13 grandchildren and step-grandchildren.

Funeral services were Sunday, December 27, 1987 at 1:30 p.m. at the Lanham-Kann Funeral Home with Reverend Richard G. Maser officiating. Mrs. Richard G. Maser was the vocalist and was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Ruth Hering.

Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Roger Jones and George Christenson. Active pallbearers were Robert Hoff, Larry, Dale, and Paul Rudkin, and Joe and David Yourell.
