Narrative
[Obituary for Mrs. Calla M. Stonebraker, from the Independence Bulletin Journal (Iowa), 4 Apr 1957.]
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 3 at 1:30 p.m. in the Swanson Funeral Home in Independence, Iowa for Mrs. Calla M. Stonebraker of Quasqueton. The Rev. N.M. Coughenour officiated and the burial was in the Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Mrs. Stonebraker died Monday, April 1 at People's Hospital in Independence, where she had been a patient since January 18. She was born October 24, 1866, the daughter of Matthias and Harriet McCormick Merkel. In 1887 she married T.H. York at West Branch; he preceded her in death. She later married Charles G. Stonebraker, who died in April 1952.
Mrs. Stonebraker, a longtime resident of this community, was a member of the First Methodist Church in Independence and the Eastern Star. She is survived by one son, Ed York, Independence; two stepsons, Harry Stonebraker, Cleveland, Ohio and Gaynor Stonebraker, Mt. Vernon; three grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Ida Ustick, Iowa City.
Pallbearers were Egbert Cole, Les Brame, Clyde Hayward, Wayne Smith and John Christiansen.
