The Hyphen Family Lineage

A currently-inaccessible public member tree on Ancestry.com appears to give his full name and vital dates (b. 4 Apr 1816, m. 1844, d. 10 Dec 1880 in Iron Ridge, Dodge Cty, Wisconsin), along with his wife's maiden name and his parents' names. Most of the other member trees there give his date and place of death as 1896 in Union Grove, Racine Cty, Wisconsin.

The family appears to be living in Hubbard, Dodge Cty, Wisconsin in the 1880 US Census.

Interestingly, in the 1885 and 1905 Minnesota State Census records, there is a Dorothea Schwantes of the appropriate age living with her son Wilhelm and his family in Rapidan, Blue Earth Cty, Minnesota. There is also a FindaGrave.com listing for a Dorothea M. Schwantes, b. 5 Feb 1821, d. 11 Mar 1907, In Saint John Lutheran Cemetery, Good Thunder, Blue Earth Cty, Minnesota, that seems likely to be the same woman. I would guess that after the death of her husband, she went to live with her son and his family until her death. I would expect that her husband Wilhelm is buried somewhere in Dodge Cty, Wisconsin.

There is also a marriage record for Wilhelm and Dorothea from a Pommern parish record transcript that indicates their wedding date, along with her father's name. The wedding date is only months prior to the reported birth year of their son Friederick.

None of the Ancestry.com member trees that I've reviewed so far have the same vital dates for a Fred Schwantes that would have been the father of Ida (Schwantes) Hein; most of these trees cite only other members' trees for their data, leading me to believe there is a lot of confusion or misattribution of records and individuals in these trees.
