Narrative

The only information I've found so far in the files of Jane Anne Thomas with regards to the Poe children is a picture postcard (dated 1 Sep 1913) of a young boy, about five years of age, labeled "Lewis Poe, son of Anna and Roland Poe." (The postcard was addressed to Mary Bayha of Bluffton - my great-grandmother.)

Buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Huntington, Huntington Cty, Indiana is a Lewis B. Poe, b. 1908 d. 1958. This may well be the Lewis in the photo. The only potential conflict I see so far is that the maiden name attributed to his wife on FindaGrave.com (Eisenhauer) doesn't agree with the marriage record I've found (Whitacre).

ADDENDUM: His mother's obituary (found in additional files from Jane Anne Thomas) gives his sister (Lura Lee) as a survivor in 1990, while giving Lewis as preceding her in death.

SECOND ADDENDUM: A genealogy of the Stuver family compiled in 1976 by Franklin Harry Bayha (and found in the files of Jane Anne Thomas) gives the name of Lewis' wife as simply "Mary Poe," and names their children Gene, Douglas, and Gregory. No vital dates are listed on the genealogy, though it should be noted that Franklin Harry has Lewis designated as adopted. I've found no other record or reference yet that indicates that Lewis was not born to Roland and Anna (Stuver) Poe.
