[headline] Mrs. Pond, 49, Dies of Cancer

Wife of Ralph "Barney" Pond, Mrs. Carol L. Pond, 49, of 225 East Arnold St., died at 9:30 a.m. today at Clinic Hospital after having been seriously ill since January. Death was attributed to cancer.

A resident of Wells County since 1947, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a past president of its Rosary Society. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, of which she was a past president, Women of the Moose and was serving as president of the Wells County Democrat Women's Association.

Born Dec. 27, 1926 in Allen County, she was a daughter of Clarence E. and Celeste Davidson Voirol. Her marriage to Mr. Pond took place at Noblesville Nov. 27, 1947.

Surviving, in addition to the husband, are four daughters, Mrs. Donald (Jane) Thompson and Mrs. Julia Hedglen, both of Bluffton, Mrs. Stan (Jacalyn) Paulsel of Anderson and Jene, at home; three sons, John of Bluffton and Jerry and Jeff, both at home, and the father, who resides at Monroeville.

Also surviving are two brothers, Thomas Voirol of Monroeville and Neil Voirol of Fort Wayne, and five grandchildren.

The body is at Thoma-Rich Funeral Home, where friends may call after 7 p.m. today until 9:30 a.m. Thursday when it will be taken to St. Joseph Catholic Church for services at 10 a.m. in charge of Msgr. James P. Conroy. Rosary services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Elm Grove Cemetery.
