Narrative
This picture was found in the files of Jane Anne Thomas, and includes handwritten notes on the back from multiple people. The woman pictured on the left is clearly Rebecca Ann (DeWitt) Smith, and judging by her appearance with comparison to other photos I have of her, the photo likely dates from sometime after 1900.
The oldest notes on the back were written in pencil by Mary Alice (Bayha) Thomas (who married Rebecca's grandson, Floyd Thomas Sr.), and read simply "Grandma Smith and Sister." The next notes were added by Jane Anne Thomas, and read "Rebecca and sister Elizabeth or Susan." The last notes were written by Jean Pasko for Jane Anne, and were more extensive in terms of information on Rebecca (her vital dates, her marriage date to Jeremiah Smith, his vital dates, noting the women as "daughters of Clark DeWitt and Melinda ?") along with writing "possibly was a Shriner" below Jane Anne's notes on the unknown sister.
The photographer's stamp on the front of the card gives an address in Pittsburg, Kansas - which would be Pittsburg, Crawford Cty, Kansas, just to the north of Cherokee Cty, Kansas, where sister Elizabeth was listed as living (with her father, step-mother, younger brother, and half-siblings) in the 1870 US Census. This photo is the only confirmation I've found so far that Elizabeth was living after that point, though I have not yet discovered her married name or a marriage record, nor any other record of her life after 1870.
