Narrative
The 1870 US Census record for a "Heintz" family in Rubicon, Dodge Cty, Wisconsin may well apply to our Jacob Hein; the parents are given as Peter (age forty-six) and Maria (age thirty-seven), with nine children ranging in ages from seventeen years down to eight months. Of the ones I know - John and Mary - their ages are given as two years greater than I would expect them to be, and her name is given as "Margarete." Still, I think it likely that this is the correct family, though I'll have to look more closely to be sure.
ADDENDUM: The 1860 US Census has a "Hain" family, with parents Jacob and Mary (ages thirty-five and twenty-six) placed in Rubicon, Dodge Cty, Wisconsin with children Michael (age four), Angaline (age two) and Margarett (age six months). There is also a record in that same year in Hustisford for the Peter and Mary family (surname "Hintz") that lines up with the family noted above in the 1870 US Census record. As such, I think the two records for Peter's family are not connected to our tree, but the Jacob and Mary family in the 1860 record in Rubicon may be.
I've conducted a visual review of the first 22 (of 51) films of the 1870 US census for Rubicon, and haven't found Jacob as of yet. There are a lot of scan or film errors in the record, indicating that Jacob's family might have been missed in indexing because of one of the errors.
