Narrative
Charles' first wife, Augusta Wendt, died in 1907; he and their four children are counted in the 1910 US Census still living in Sullivan, with his marital status listed as "widowed." Sometime around or before 1918, he remarried (to the German born Marie, surname unknown) and had a younger son Ernest and a daughter Florence. As of the 1920 US Census, he and his wife Marie were living in Kenosha with the 2-year-old Ernest (named for Charles' father), the 5-year-old Florence, and his son Alfred from his first marriage. In the 1940 US Census, the household family members were only Charles, Marie, and son Ernest all living in Kenosha, where Charles would be buried later that year.
