Narrative

In The History of Randolph County, Indiana, in the section on Jackson Township (p493), there is a bio of Isaac Hoover (b.1829 in Clark County, Ohio), the son of a George Hoover (b.1795 in Virginia) and Catherine Simmons (b.1796, Virginia). George and Catherine settled in Ohio in 1832, the year before our George Hoover (father of Martha Ann Hoover) was born. It is possible that Isaac is an older brother of our George Hoover; more research will be necessary to find out.

ADDENDUM: George Hoover served as a Private in the 63rd Indiana Infantry, Company K, enlisting in August of 1862. The 1890 US Census of Union Veterans and Widows of the Civil War listing for his wife, Sarah, gives his length of service as four months. As this lines up with the death date on the FindaGrave.com listing for him, it strongly suggests that he died during his service, possibly being killed in action.
