Narrative

Note: the Manest surname

The records show an amazing number of anglicizing attempts and phonetic spellings for Manest, most of them resembling either an English or German version of the words "mouse nest." I would expect that the current spelling was an adoption made by Gottlieb in order to eliminate some of the confusion that stemmed from the traditional pronounciation of the family surname.
